Lessons Learned: Third Infantry Division (Mechanized) After Action Report

In the wake of the most recent military/media problems during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense decided to implement an ambitious media embed operation with U.S. military forces. The reasons were several, including the desire to have media tell the soldiers’ story, but also to have the ability to counter the Iraqi propaganda machine.

Iraq Security Report – September 29, 2003

The main news this week in Iraq focused on the hitting of ‘soft targets’ such as hotels where westerners are residing. These attacks were rumored to be once the security in and around Iraq was to be tightened by the security forces. The attackers / terrorists always had the capability to hit the CPA and other western residences as was proved with the UN attacks and the very recent explosion at the two hotels involving an IED and RPGs.

Iraq Security Report – Sept. 18, 2003

The threat level to all personnel working in Iraq remains high. Attacks by armed groups and terrorists, etc. are consistent with the general consensus that their use of IEDs and small arms shows their increased sophistication.

Attacks on coalition forces continue on a daily basis, both by day and by night, consisting of IEDs, RPGs, hand grenades, small arms and mortar fire.
