Show us your best work published between Jan. 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025
For the first time, Military Reporters & Editors is now accepting entries to its annual contest for work published during the last 18 months. This change recognizes the fluidity of events, the importance of providing reliable information to the public, and the rapid-fire nature of news gathering in challenging times.
“It is especially important to honor the best journalism being produced, not just last year but also right now,” states MRE President Howard Altman. “Military Reporters & Editors supports journalists covering conflict, the military, national and homeland security, defense technology as well as troops, veterans and their families. A lot of great work is being produced on these topics, deserving of recognition, especially at a time when journalists themselves are under attack. This is the purpose of the 2025 MRE Journalism Contest.”
This year, the 2025 MRE Journalism Contest will accept work produced through June 30, 2025, with the contest running from June 18 – July 16, 2025. This allows those who wish to submit work just published, time to enter. Not only can entering journalists compete for plaques, but there are also two awards that are accompanied by prizes. The Joseph L. Galloway Award for Distinguished Journalism comes with a $1,000 prize for the winning journalist who is selected by an independent panel of judges as the best-of-the-best from all contest entries. The James Crawley Award is accompanied by a $500 prize for the winning journalist chosen from all “Text” entries.
