WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 — During its annual conference for journalists who cover the military, Military Reporters & Editors presented awards to the winners of the 2024 MRE Journalism Contest. Sian Grzeszczyk Melbourne of Forces News/BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) was recognized by judges for exceptional work in a series of news reports on the U.S Army’s training site at Fort Irwin, California with U.S. and U.K. forces.


Sian Grzeszczyk Melbourne Biography

Sian Grzeszczyk Melbourne (pronounced: Grez-check Mel-born) is an award-winning international TV defence reporter and video journalist with more than 16 years experience. For nearly 7 years she has been reporting for Forces News, part of BFBS, the British Forces Broadcasting Service. Before that she spent nearly a decade as a BBC News reporter. In 2021 Sian became the first British journalist to fly in and shadow the controls of a US Army Apache attack helicopter as she joined the Welsh Cavalry in Louisiana for Exercise Rattlesnake, her exclusive series of telecasts for Forces News received more than 6 million hits in total. Sian gained exclusive access to fly in and report from one of the Chinook helicopters as it formed part of the flypast for the King’s Coronation providing live reports to the world. Sian co-presents the annual Celebrating Forces Families Awards in London. Some of Sian’s favourite interviews include meeting WWII veteran Captain Sir Tom Moore when he raised millions of pounds for the NHS in the UK in time for his 100th birthday and interviewing Tom Cruise at the London premiere for Top Gun Maverick where he praised armed forces personnel for their service.
