Veteran Journalist Steve Komarow Dies

Steve Komarow, senior vice president and executive editor of CQ Roll Call and a veteran foreign affairs correspondent who was involved with Military Reporters & Editors from its early days, died Sunday after a recent accident and a long illness.

Komarow, who was 61, had a storied career that included stints at The Associated Press, USA TODAY and Bloomberg news.

At USA TODAY, Komarow was a foreign correspondent and Washington bureau reporter covering defense and foreign policy. He was embedded with the U.S. Army during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and also reported from Afghanistan.

“Steve Komarow was not only the embodiment of journalism at its best, he was also kindness personified,” said John M. Donnelly, the MRE president, who worked for Komarow at CQ Roll Call. “He had a fierce reporter’s spirit, and he was a gentleman’s gentleman.”

Komarow died at George Washington University Hospital. Services are pending.
